The Crossbill is a member of the finch family and as its
name suggests the tips of the upper and lower mandible cross over, this is
an adaptation for feeding on spruce cones, although it is well able to feed
on pine cones as well. It is found throughout much of Europe in suitable
	coniferous woodland.
